Journalists face threats of repression globally

Journalists face significant risks in repressive countries around the world, where freedom of the press is restricted and critical reporting is often met with violence, censorship, or imprisonment.
In many of these countries, journalists are targeted by authoritarian governments, armed groups, or other powerful actors who seek to silence dissent and suppress information.
Journalists in repressive countries face a range of threats, including physical attacks, harassment, surveillance, and legal persecution.
The risks are particularly acute for investigative journalists and those reporting on human rights abuses or corruption, who are often targeted for their work.
Despite the dangers they face, journalists continue to work tirelessly to report the truth and hold those in power accountable. They are a vital source of information for citizens and play a critical role in shaping public opinion and promoting democratic values.
We at the Europe Peace Foundation believe it is essential that governments and the international community do more to protect journalists and ensure that they are able to do their jobs safely and without fear of reprisal.
