Tuesday, December 9, 2025 – I am deeply concerned about the latest political crisis in Benin, where the country’s military reportedly attempted to overthrow President Patrice Talon, suspend the constitution, dissolve state institutions, and close the borders. Such actions are completely unacceptable in a democratic nation.

I urge all parties to return to the democratic path and respect the mandate and voices of the people. Benin has faced political challenges for a long time, and restoring stability and constitutional order is essential.

The people of Benin seek political stability, economic development, accessible healthcare and education, jobs, and lasting peace—goals that align with my Global Peace 2030 Agenda.
