Ukraine: Statement on the destruction of the Kakhovka dam

Wednesday, June 7, 2023 – Russia’s attacks against Ukrainian civilian critical infrastructure reached an unprecedented level today with the destruction of the dam at Kakhovka Hydroelectric Power Plant.

Flood levels in southern Ukraine are expected to reach peak levels after the Nova Kakhovka dam was badly damaged on Tuesday. Ukrainian officials estimate about 42,000 people are at risk from the flooding in Russian and Ukrainian controlled areas along the Dnipro River.

The Global Peace 2030 condemns this attack in the strongest possible terms. It represents a new dimension of Russian atrocities and may constitute a violation of international law, notably international humanitarian law.
