Mr. KC Statement on the Conflict in Darfur: A Call for Lasting Peace
Statement
Wednesday, 29 October 2025 – I remain deeply concerned about the continued violence and conflict in Darfur. Fears are mounting of mass killings in the key Sudanese city of El-Fashir following the recent capture of the city by the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) from government forces.
Since Sunday, when the RSF announced it had taken control of the army headquarters in El-Fashir, reports indicate that fleeing civilians are being detained in nearby towns and villages. For 18 months, RSF forces have besieged the city, trapping hundreds of thousands of civilians and creating a severe hunger crisis.
I call for an immediate cessation of hostilities in El-Fashir, full protection of civilians, and the unrestricted, safe, and sustained delivery of humanitarian aid.
Enough is enough. Life in Sudan — especially in El-Fashir — has been overwhelmed by violence, hunger, and disease. Every day, an estimated 30 people are losing their lives. The siege has pushed communities to the brink of starvation, while relentless drone and artillery strikes continue to target displacement shelters, mosques, hospitals, and clinics.
I stand ready to help mediate a path toward lasting peace in Sudan. I urge all parties to engage in meaningful dialogue to halt the fighting and resume negotiations for a sustainable political solution. This effort aligns with my Global Peace 2030 Initiative.
The people of Sudan deserve peace, stability, and the opportunity to build a better future — free from violence, hunger, and preventable disease.
