Remarks by President KC on Armenia–Azerbaijan peace agreement

Armenia–Azerbaijan peace agreement
Saturday, 9 August 2025

I am pleased to express my sincere gratitude to the leadership of both the Republic of Azerbaijan and the Republic of Armenia for their recent agreement aimed at concluding decades of conflict, which has persisted since 1988. It is imperative that other nations experiencing similar conflicts follow this path towards peace, and I urge all countries to join me in the Global Peace 2030 initiative, which seeks to eliminate all forms of violence in armed conflicts.

The conflict between Azerbaijan and Armenia over Nagorno-Karabakh, an ethnically Armenian enclave within Azerbaijan, escalated during the 1980s and 1990s, with subsequent outbreaks of violence having significant repercussions for millions of Azerbaijanis.

In 2023, Azerbaijan regained full control of the region through a military offensive, resulting in the exodus of nearly all of the remaining 100,000 ethnic Armenians to Armenia.

“The only solution is peace, not violence and conflict,” I advocate for Global Peace 2030.
