Mr. KC Expresses Deep Concern Over the Situation in Uganda and Calls for Political Stability and Peace
Statement
Saturday, January 17, 2026 – I am deeply concerned about the current situation surrounding Uganda’s presidential election, including reports of violence, the killing of opposition supporters, and the forcible arrest of opposition party leaders.
These actions are totally unacceptable. Elections must be free, fair, transparent, and peaceful, with full participation from all political actors. Unfortunately, this has not been the case in Uganda.
In the 21st century, the voices of all people must be heard. Citizens have the fundamental right to speak freely and to participate in democratic processes. Holding elections while cutting internet access and restricting freedom of expression undermines democracy and the will of the people.
I call upon all Ugandan political parties to come together in the interest of the nation to find a peaceful solution to the current crisis. National dialogue is essential for political stability, development, and respect for the people’s mandate.
The people of Uganda seek political stability, development, employment opportunities, free access to healthcare and education, and lasting peace. These aspirations align with my Global Peace 2030 Agenda, which promotes democracy, human rights, and sustainable peace worldwide. Only through unity, dialogue, and respect for democratic values can Uganda move forward toward a peaceful and prosperous future.
– Sappan KC, President / Global Peace 2030
