Mr. KC Remarks on Rwanda – Democratic Republic of the Congo De-escalation Agreement

Mr. KC Remarks on Rwanda – Democratic Republic of the Congo De-escalation Agreement

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Thursday, March 19, 2026 – While the recent agreement between Rwanda and the Democratic Republic of the Congo to de-escalate tensions is a positive step, it is not sufficient in light of the continued violence in eastern Congo. Temporary agreements alone cannot ensure lasting peace.

Both nations have previously entered into similar arrangements, yet these have often failed to bring sustained stability. It is a reality that civilians in both countries have long suffered from fear, violence, and conflict. This cycle must end permanently.

All parties involved—particularly those along the border regions—must come together in genuine commitment to peace. Lasting peace requires more than agreements; it demands mutual respect, accountability, and a shared willingness to prioritize the well-being of the people over political or territorial interests.

The people of both nations desire only one thing: enduring peace. It is therefore essential for governments and all conflicting parties to set aside their differences and listen to the voices of their citizens.

This vision aligns with my global Peace 2030 Agenda, which calls for an end to violence and the establishment of sustainable peace for future generations.
