President KC’s statement on violence and the deaths of farmers and civilians in Congo

Friday, 1 August 2025 – According to media reports, an M23 rebel assault on farmers and other civilians in the eastern Democratic Republic of Congo resulted in the deaths of 169 individuals and caused many to flee, despite promises to pursue peace.

“Civilians, primarily farmers who were temporarily residing in their fields during the ploughing season, have been subjected to attacks.

I have previously called upon the government and all parties engaged in the DRC conflict to participate in a peace process, as peace is the only sustainable solution; in warfare, there are no genuine winners.

The citizens of the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) yearn for peace and development, free from violence and strife. I am dedicated to initiating peace talks in Congo as part of my Global Peace 2030 initiative.

– Hum Bahadur KC Sappan KC, President
