Tuesday, 16 September 2025 – According to media reports, Palestinians have described the most intense bombardment they have faced in two years of conflict, as Israel launched a long-threatened ground assault on Gaza City, with residents declaring, “Gaza is burning.”

Gaza health officials report dozens of people killed and hundreds injured, most in Gaza City, as airstrikes and advancing tanks continue to devastate the area.

I strongly urge Israel to immediately halt its intensifying military operations in Gaza City, declare an immediate ceasefire, and facilitate the continuous delivery of humanitarian aid to Gaza to prevent further civilian suffering. This assault threatens to unleash additional death and destruction, compounding the hardships of civilians who have already endured unimaginable loss.

The moment has arrived to conclude the conflict in Gaza. I once again implore all involved parties to work towards a permanent and sustainable ceasefire to end the hostilities.
