Statement regarding the disbandment of the Kurdish PKK, concluding the insurgency in Turkey, and the initiation of constructive measures
Tuesday, 13 May 2025 – The Kurdistan Workers Party (PKK), after a 40-year-long insurgency, has declared its intention to disarm and dissolve. This conflict has resulted in over 40,000 fatalities since its inception.
The PKK’s decision marks a potential conclusion to one of the Middle East’s protracted insurgencies, which may significantly influence southeastern Turkey, northern Iraq, and northeastern Syria.
I urge all stakeholders to take advantage of this pivotal moment to foster enduring peace and stability in these areas. Let us collectively strive towards realizing the Global Peace 2030 vision.
