Mr. KC Visits South Sudan’s Commission For Refugee Affairs, Meets Deputy Commissioner
PRESIDENT KC MEETS DEPUTY COMMISSIONER FOR REFUGEE AFFAIRS IN SOUTH SUDAN
Juba, 15 September 2026 — President Mr. Sappan KC Hum met with Honourable John Dabi, Deputy Commissioner of the South Sudan Commission for Refugee Affairs, on Tuesday as part of his official peace mission.
They discussed the situation of refugees and displaced people, humanitarian needs, violence and the importance of lasting peace. President KC shared the aims of his Global Peace 2030 initiative and his proposal for the “Declaration of South Sudan as a Peaceful Nation.”
Deputy Commissioner Dabi described the pressure on refugee settlements. He said Gorom Refugee Settlement, designed for approximately 2,000 people, was hosting around 18,000 refugees from neighbouring countries, many displaced by conflict and violence. He also raised concerns about conditions in Maban, Jamjang, Wedweil and other settlements, and warned of a potential food shortage.
President KC called for urgent humanitarian support and lasting solutions for refugees. He suggested exploring whether suitable land could be made available, with proper planning and the agreement of affected communities, to support voluntary settlement and agricultural livelihoods.
“South Sudan is moving towards the vision of a Peaceful Nation under Global Peace 2030,” President KC said. He expressed his hope that, through sustained peacebuilding and development, South Sudan could become a country where people no longer need to flee violence or live in refugee camps, and where tourism, culture and economic opportunity can flourish.
President KC was accompanied by members of the Europe Peace Foundation and Global Peace 2030 Representation Office in South Sudan, including:

- Mr. Thirik Lang Mijak, Finance and Administration Officer;
- Ms. Anna Suzan, Humanitarian Affairs and Protection Officer;
- Mr. Paul Lorem Aminathia, Project, Grant and Compliance Officer;
- Mrs. Nyabalash Juaj Bol, Health Programmes and Safety Officer;
- Ms. Flora Lokudu Latio, Conflict Resolution and Peacebuilding Officer;
- Mr. Moses Jamaica Sakondo, Social Dialogue and Mediation Officer; and
- Mr. Sunge Emmanuel, ICT and Communications Officer.
President KC has been on an official visit to the Republic of South Sudan since 13 September 2026. His programme in Juba includes engagements with government institutions, senior officials, Parliament, communities, young people, civil society organisations and refugee communities. The discussions have focused on peace, reconciliation, humanitarian concerns and cooperation towards achieving lasting peace by 2030.
