Statement on Climate Change, Global Warming, and the Pursuit of Peace

Climate change and global warming represent not only environmental crises but profound threats to global peace and stability. As rising temperatures fuel resource scarcity, displacement, and food insecurity, entire regions face the risk of social unrest and conflict. The Europe Peace Foundation recognizes that peace cannot exist in isolation from ecological balance. Addressing the climate emergency is, therefore, a matter of collective security — one that demands international cooperation, equitable policies, and the protection of vulnerable communities most affected by environmental degradation.

We call upon governments, institutions, and civil society to place climate justice at the heart of peacebuilding efforts. Mitigating global warming means safeguarding lives, ensuring access to water and food, and preserving human dignity. The pursuit of peace in the 21st century must include a commitment to a sustainable and just ecological future — where the stability of our planet is seen as inseparable from the stability of our societies.
